Fundraiser

Cairns2Karumba – Giving Bush Kids a Fair Go!

The road ride involves a total of 780km of riding [The route has a total ascent of 4182.77 m and has a maximum elevation of 1,162.6 m. ]. It probably comes as no surprise that I am not riding, but will instead be volunteering as an escort vehicle driver.

We will travel through beautiful remote Queensland and meet some of the local families that we are fundraising for.

We encourage some of the children to join us a few kilometers from the town and ride in with a pack. This is a huge event for them and they train for and look forward to for months.

Donations  are focused on supporting and benefiting children who live in the remote rural areas of the region. Beneficiaries include: Cairns School of Distance Education, State primary schools – including Mt Garnet, Mt Surprise, Georgetown, Croydon, Normanton and Karumba as well as child care centres, sports associations and more.

There is a rotating special beneficiary each year chosen from: Royal Flying Doctor Service, Burns Unit at the Royal Children’s Hospital and Children’s Services at the Cairns Base Hospital. The inclusion of special beneficiaries was in response to the overwhelming and continued support provided through several major organizations including the Queensland Police, Queensland Ambulance Service, Queensland Fire and Rescue Service, State Emergency Service, Australian Quarantine Services, Australian Customs, Australian Defence Forces and many more.

Once again I will joining around 250 cyclists to ride from Cairns to Karumba to support the children of Far North Queensland.

I have created this page to raise funds to assist communities to provide better education opportunities for the children living in some of the most remote areas of Far North Queensland which we will be riding through during the 780km\\\’s in 7 day ride.

Please help me by donating what you can, all amounts large and small will make a difference. The more people that know about the Cairns to Karumba Bike Ride, the greater the impact, so please spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family.

Thank you in advance for your generosity

Why not? Just another little challenge after the Ironman70.3… 780km from Cairns to Karumba, 7 days on the mountain bike going through some of the most amazing country and meeting some incredible producers who do it tough every single day. Riding to raise funds for the Cairns School of Distance Education who support kids out in the bush that cannot attend main stream schools. Providing them with educational opportunities and programs to support their education. Over 200 riders do this ride each year and help these kids in so many different ways.

Very happy to be supporting this cause this year.

Cairns to Karumba Charity Bike Ride

From the 29th of June until the 5th July Inclusive I will be cycling for 7 days to raise funds for the kids that live in the outback.  Being a New Zealander I have never been in this area before and really looking forward to seeing outback Australia and meeting amazing families along the way.  I have been told there is a few mountain ranges along the way but with a very long stretch of flat road towards the end.  I only hope the wind is in my favour.  I know I can help make a difference with raising funds so please help if you can.

Kind regards,

Wendy

Here we go again!!!! – Peter Whiteley

Yes, together with a team entry from Canberra, now known as “Gears n Beers”, I have signed up to be a rider again in the incredible Cairns to Karumba (C2K) riding event. C2K has for many years now made a valuable contribution by way of fund raising, to help improve the education of children in the bush. Total funds raised to date now exceed $1,045,000.  I look forward to being able to help contribute to the overall fund raising goal for this year.

Family Ride and Fund Raising Challenge – John Preller

Well, the timing is not great at all – having fractured my knee in two places on the 10th May, seven weeks out from the ride.

I am not going to let that dampen my enthusiasm.  My son (Boyd) has agreed to ride with me to help me along.  How is that, his first fundraising ride and he chooses a 750k ride – what a champion !

My wife (Wendy) and daughter (Marley) will be our support crew over the 750k ride, driving the camper trailer, setting up camp and providing Boyd and I with massages upon arrival each night (yeah right !!!).

In reality, my knee injury may mean that I have to take it very easy or miss some sections – but I am going to give it my best shot!

We need to raise $1,200 as a family entry – all money raised is going towards distance education costs for children in remote Australia.

Thanks very much,

John, Wendy, Boyd and Marley

From the 29th June to the 6th July I will be peddling my mountain bike over dirt roads and dusty tracks between Cairns and Karumba. That’s 780km by road.

Please help me achieve my fundraising goal and help support School of the Air for the kids of the outback.
