Cairns to Karumba Bike Ride (C2K) COVID Vaccination Positioning Statement
Cairns to Karumba Bike Ride (C2K) is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for our participants, cycling community and the remote communities we travel through.
To that end, the Cairns to Karumba Bike Ride supports and encourages vaccinations against COVID-19 for riders, volunteers, C2K crew and supporters to enable for a safe event for all.
This position acknowledges the science supporting vaccination and the medical advice on minimising risk to our communities. It is clear that getting vaccinated substantially reduces the risk of severe disease, hospitalisation and death from COVID-19 and lowers the risks of becoming infected.
We consult closely with our local and state stakeholders groups such as local Council, QLD Health, Emergency Services, Local Public Health Units, Traffic and Transport Departments, and Police on all relevant areas of the event. We follow the applicable QLD Health Public Health Order (PHO) in place at the time and adhere to any local or state laws, acknowledging this is a dynamic and changing landscape.
C2K recognises the Federal Government position that vaccination is not a mandatory requirement and does not currently set specific vaccination criteria for this event. C2K also understands and respects personal choice, medical and religious exemptions. However, the safety and well-being of all participants must remain the priority and C2K’s position is that there is one way to help get back to doing what everyone loves – and that is to get vaccinated.
Please stay safe, during these unprecedented times and continue to follow the requirements set by government.
