I’m riding the C2K again to benefit the children who live in the remote rural areas of the region. Today beneficiaries include: Cairns School of Distance Education, State primary schools – including Mt Garnet, Mt Surprise, Georgetown, Croydon, Normanton and Karumba as well as child care centres, sports associations and more.
There is a rotating special beneficiary each year chosen from: Royal Flying Doctor Service, Burns Unit at the Royal Children’s Hospital and Children’s Services at the Cairns Base Hospital. This is due to the overwhelming and continued support provided through several major organizations including the Queensland Police, Queensland Ambulance Service, Queensland Fire and Rescue Service, State Emergency Service, Australian Quarantine Services, Australian Customs, Australian Defence Forces and many more.

Karen and I are traveling to Cairns late June to participate in this annual and worthy event. Anyone wishing to contribute no matter the value can do so via this link with contributions going directly to those targeted in this program and would be over ad above our direct minimal donations to quality. Training is well underway with morning cycling around our local area 4 or 5 days a week. Training distances vary between 55Km and 100Km.

Early in the life of the event the decision was made to spread the benefits of funds raised to include many communities and organizations across the North Queensland region. The main criteria involved the benefits being focused on supporting and benefiting children who live in the remote rural areas of the region. Today beneficiaries include: Cairns School of Distance Education, State primary schools – including Mt Garnet, Mt Surprise, Georgetown, Croydon, Normanton and Karumba as well as child care centers, sports associations and more.
To date the event has raised and distributed in excess of $1,140,000.

700 km bike ride with support vehicles (that’s where I come in) from Cairns to Karumba to support kids who attend remote bush schools or learn through Distance Education. Kind of like a fundraising school fete when you live a long way from a big town.

This year I’m doing the C2K once again, but this time going a little off road, participating in the Dirty Boys side of the ride. The money raised for this ride goes towards helping the young kids in rural Australia get an education, through the School of Distance Education.
